A 70-year-old man who was involved in a boating accident Wednesday on Sylvan Lake was pronounced dead shortly after he was pulled from the water.

The man had rented a boat at about noon and was last seen alive by an employee of the rental company at 3:15 p.m., Sylvan Lake RCMP said in a news release.

Shortly before 5 p.m., an employee found the man’s boat abandoned on the north shore of Sylvan Lake.

RCMP were called to help find the man and, after a short search on the water, officers located the missing man in a remote location on the lake. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

RCMP were assisting the medical examiner’s office to determine the cause of the accident. Police did not believe it to be suspicious.

Sylvan Lake is about 160 km south of Edmonton.
