Edmonton troops ready for Poland NATO mission
About 100 soldiers from 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group will depart Edmonton on Wednesday for Poland as part of Operation Reassurance.
The Canadian Forces troops are part of a NATO operation that began in 2014 offering “assurance and deterrence measures through the provision of military capabilities for training, exercises, demonstrations and assigned NATO tasks.”
The troops will be posted in Poland for six months and will “participate in exercises which focus on developing better interoperability with NATO allies.”
In August last year, soldiers from 1st Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, 1 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group, and Reserve Force were deployed for their own six-month stint in Poland.
They were deployed to take over duties from 1st Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment and 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group.
