Eggen should explain $50-million promise

Re. “NDP keeps promise on school fees,” Letters, March 8

-

The final statement in David Eggen’s letter was: “This bill will save Albertans more than $50 million annually.”

Undoubtedly, eliminating school fees would leave some parents with more money for food, clothing and the mortgage. Arguably, it may be fairer for the costs to be borne by society at large, rather than by parents only.

One way or another, however, the total cost must be paid.

Perhaps Eggen would explain exactly how Albertans will be paying $50 million less under his bill?

Misleading statements by politicians tend to make voters cynical. We question the honesty and integrity of those in, or aspiring to, public office.
