Building schools, not playing politics
Re. “How does Alberta add new schools?” March 27
Building schools is one of the most important things a government can do. That’s why, since taking office, we’ve funded eight school projects in Edmonton-South West.
We have catching up to do when it comes to building schools. The previous government announced schools without funding and parents had to watch as they repeatedly put up signs — but construction never started.
Instead of playing politics, our government works with school boards. Last week, Premier Notley announced funding to the top three projects in the Edmonton Public Schools’ capital plan.
The chair of EPSB says our school plan is “great news for students and families across the city,” while noting there continues to be infrastructure needs. I couldn’t agree more — I’ll be working closely with the minister to ensure we invest in schools. Thomas Dang, MLA for Edmonton-South West
