Atwood’s Tale lands on Bravo

-

An anticipated adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel The Handmaid’s Tale has landed a Canadian broadcaster.

The 10-episode first season of the Toronto-shot drama will debut on Bravo in a two-hour premiere event on April 30, four days after it hits the U.S. streaming service Hulu. The onehour show will continue to air on subsequent Sundays.

The entire first season will also launch on Bell Media’s video streaming service CraveTV this spring, after the airing of the season finale on Bravo.

Elisabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes, Samira Wiley, Max Minghella and Alexis Bledel are among the stars of the series. The story is set in a totalitarian society ruled by a fundamentalist regime that treats women as property of the state.

Toronto-based Atwood, whose 1985 novel The Handmaid’s Tale won a Governor General’s Literary Award, is a consulting producer.

GLEE STAR JOINS GREY’S ANATOMY

Matthew Morrison is joining the cast of Grey’s Anatomy, Entertainment Weekly confirmed, most likely as Jo’s scary husband.

Photos on social media on Friday showed Morrison filming a scene with Grey’s regular Justin Chambers on location in Los Angeles. Chambers plays Dr. Alex Karev, who’s intimately involved with Jo Wilson, played by Camilla Luddington.

That same day, Morrison said on Instagram he’s playing a character named Dr. Paul Stadler, but didn’t say for what show.

At the end of Season 12, Jo was reluctant to marry Alex because she was already married — she had run away from her abusive partner, hoping he wouldn’t find her, and as such wasn’t able to get a divorce.

Executive producer Debbie Allen previously told EW there was a “big chance” they would introduce Jo’s husband into the series. Grey ’s Anatomy airs on ABC and CTV.

HORROR STARS TALK TRUMP RUMOURS

The cast of American Horror Story is opening up about rumours of a season of the series centred on U.S. President Donald Trump. Series creator Ryan Murphy told Andy Cohen last month the seventh season of the FX drama would focus on the presidential election and mentioned the possibility of a Trump character.

When asked ahead of Sunday’s event at the Paley Center in Los Angeles, Sarah Paulson said a Trump-themed season doesn’t fit what the show has done so far, but “anything is possible if it’s what the audience craves.”

Cuba Gooding Jr. added he didn’t know for sure, but thought the rumours were a “red herring.”

Kathy Bates said she was OK with it, as long as she was not cast as the president.
