Add a second coach’s challenge

-

The Anaheim Ducks are a very good hockey team and are extremely adept at subtle infractions often ignored because it’s “playoff hockey.”

However, they are charmed when it comes to favourable rulings which seem to defy what we see on a replay. In Game 4, Corey Perry, a serial offender, contacted Talbot’s goalie pad which appeared to be goalie interference. Coach Todd McLellan’s challenge was not rewarded. When Perry was definitely offside on their next goal, we were unable to challenge.

The winning goal should have been negated due to icing. In Game 5, the tying goal, under further review, clearly showed Ryan Kesler interfering with Talbot. Call me biased if you like but there appears to be a pattern here. The coach’s challenge rule should be changed to avoid further fiascos — a second challenge with an accompanying two-minute penalty as a possible solution. Also, if we can criticize players and teams in the media, why can’t we have report cards for officials?
