Series of charges laid after gun found in crib
A 20-year-old man is facing a string of charges after police investigating a stolen vehicle found a handgun beneath a mattress in an empty crib.
At around 1 a.m. Tuesday, police in Edmonton’s northeast were called about a 2015 Dodge Ram truck stolen from 40 Street and 137 Avenue.
Officers with the EPS canine unit found the truck a few blocks away, on 136 Avenue and 38 Street, and believed a suspect was armed and had fled inside a nearby residence where an acquaintance lives, police said.
The suspect had two outstanding firearms prohibitions from previous offences and was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant, according to an Edmonton police news release.
Patrol officers with the northeast division searched the residence and found a handgun under a mattress in an empty crib.
Lorne Cardinal, 20, is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, careless use or storage of a firearm, possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to the public, unauthorized possession of a firearm or weapon in a vehicle, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a firearm or weapon obtained by offence.
