Craziness in the cards?

-

Has Donald Trump made House of Cards obsolete? Don’t count on it, says Kevin Spacey.

The actor, who stars as a power-hungry South Carolina congressman who connives his way to the presidency, says the upcoming fifth season of House of Cards is “one of the best” they’ve done and his Frank Underwood is just as backstabbing and deceitful as in other seasons.

“This year, in particular, there’s been a lot of commentary about how we can’t compete in the real world, so it’s not going to be as interesting and the show can’t possibly be as crazy as the real world. And my answer to that is, just you wait. Just you wait,” Spacey said with a smirk.

In the series, Underwood conspires with his wife to amass power in Washington through blackmail and betrayal. Despite his character’s manipulation, Spacey encourages viewers to become involved in politics.

“It’s really worthwhile; it’s really worth doing,” he said. “Whether that’s stuffing envelopes for something you believe in or finding out what your community centre needs.”

The fifth season of House of Cards premieres May 30 on Netflix.

SUNNY DAYS

NBC is giving the nod to a new sitcom starring Glenn Howerton of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. NBC said it has ordered the series, titled A.P. Bio, for next season. It’s the first new 2017-18 comedy announced by the network.

Howerton plays a philosophy scholar who settles for a job teaching Advanced Placement biology to high school students, but starts scheming. The cast includes Patton Oswalt, with Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels among the executive producers.

NBC previously announced two drama pickups: Rise starring Josh Radner as a dedicated teacher, and military intelligence drama For God & Country with Anne Heche.

NBC and other networks will present their lineups for the fall season next week to advertisers in New York.

BLOOMS-DAY

Rosewood, Fox’s police procedural starring Morris Chestnut, will be laid to rest. Chestnut announced on his Instagram account that the series is cancelled after two seasons.

“Fox provided a platform for a show that made strides in diversity and the images it projected, as all-inclusive,” he typed in a caption coupled with a photo of him in costume.

“Today is a special day. Today I say goodbye to my very first show, Rosewood,” Ortiz wrote on her Instagram account. “I say goodbye to Detective Annalise Villa. Damn, I’m gonna miss that woman.”

The season finale, titled Blistering Heat & Brotherly Love, aired April 28.
