Calgary police ask public to help ID men in shooting
CALGARY Calgary police released an image Thursday of an incident in Saddle Ridge earlier this year, when they say two groups of men started shooting at each other in an intersection.
The incident took place around 5:40 p.m. on March 17 at Saddlecrest Park and Saddlecrest Boulevard N.E.
Police believe several of the suspects were carrying guns and that at least six shots were fired.
Insp. Mike Bossley of the Investigative Operations Section said bullets were found in two homes after the shots were fired.
No one sought medical attention after the incident, so police don’t know if anyone was injured.
Police say all of the men fled the area before officers arrived, but two suspects were arrested a short time later hiding in a residential area.
Two vehicles that are believed to be connected to the incident were seen speeding away from the area.
Police are looking for information related to a 2007 white, fourdoor Honda Civic, as well as 2015 white, four-door Honda Accord.
Calgary police said Thursday they believe the incident stems from an ongoing dispute between two groups of men in their early 20s, within the South Asian community.
Police say officers have been working with community leaders with the hope of finding a peaceful solution to the ongoing disagreement.
“We want our community members to know that if they see anything unusual, they have to be vigilant and they can report that to Crime Stoppers and law enforcement,” said Riyaz Khawaja, spokesperson for the Hussaini Association of Calgary and a board member with the Saddle Ridge Community Association.
Bossley said police don’t know much about the ongoing dispute between the two groups of men, adding two people taken into custody were not cooperative.
“We’re asking for anybody with additional information to come forward and give us some help to identify who was involved and why they were involved,” he said.
Two men were arrested and one has been charged in connection with the incident.
Jasdeep Brar, 21, of Calgary was charged with weapons offences.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Calgary police or Crime Stoppers.
