Kensington Village and Southside Manor voted best seniors residences in 2017 Readers’ Choice Awards
2017 marks the third year in a row that a Shepherd’s Care Foundation facility has been chosen by Edmonton Journal readers as the number one choice for seniors housing in Edmonton.
In 2015 and 2016, Southside Manor, one of the organization’s independent living facilities, earned the number one spot. This year, Southside Manor took runner-up to give Kensington Village, Shepherd’s Care’s largest facility, a chance at Gold.
With a variety of care options, auxiliaries, clubs and programs, it’s no argument that Kensington Village is a great place for seniors. A 17-acre campus in northwest Edmonton, this campus is developed around a spacious outdoor courtyard, where residents have wheelchair access to a barbeque area, walking paths and miniature horses from spring to fall.
“There are many ways for our residents to stay social and be involved on campus,” says Sandra Colangelo, North Zone Director at Shepherd’s Care Foundation. “One example is our veterans unit, which was established after a resident voiced the need for one. We now host a popular Remembrance Day ceremony every November in our newly constructed church, which sees more than 200 people from our campus and the greater community.”
Kensington Village is home to approximately 600 residents, and offers independent living, supportive living, supportive living with dementia and long-term care.
For seniors looking to stay on the south side of the city, Southside Manor provides a vibrant, tightknit community where residents maintain their independence. From weekly Bible studies to recreational programming, residents are able to remain active and enjoy an energetic life.
Southside Manor is located next to the Foundation’s brand new assisted living facility, Eden House, and an independent living condominium featuring the Heritage Market Grill, which opened its doors to the public this fall.
