Suspect shot, injured after breaking into Lewis Estates home

Police were investigat­ing Friday after a suspect in a Lewis Estates break-in was shot by the home’s occupant Thursday night.

The suspect was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

West division officers were called to 875 Proctor Wynd at 7:55 p.m. Thursday, said an Edmonton Police Service news release.

The house sits on a quiet lane decorated for the holidays. In the window of the house stands a Christmas tree, with decoration­s twinkling from the window and a wreath hung on the door.

Several people broke into the house before an occupant confronted them, firing at least one round and striking one of the suspects, the release said.

The remaining suspects took off on foot.

The home is believed to have been targeted and investigat­ors do not believe there is a risk to the public at this time, police said.

Officers surrounded the neighbourh­ood near the Lewis Estates Golf Course as the lights from police vehicles flashed alongside Christmas lights Thursday night. Crime scene investigat­ors wearing white booties over their shoes continued to comb the scene Friday morning.
