Dining with Friends is a dinner series organized for the last five years through the Friends of the Royal Alberta Museum Society (FRAMS). Next Thursday, the group visits the Wheat Garden Noodle and Dumpling Bazaar (10703 103 St.) for a cosy evening of handmade jiaozi (dumplings), including assorted meat-stuffed bundles of dough and vegetarian dumplings, too.

There will also be a variety of small dishes, plus noodle dishes and other specialties including shrimp fried rice. The evening starts at 6 p.m. and costs $37, including tea, tax and tip.

To book tickets, call the FRAMS office at 780-453-9103 or email frams.office@gmail.com

The south side restaurant Vaticano Cucina has a cool new feature — charging stations for electric cars are now located outside the restaurant at 10310 45 Ave.

Ernest’s restaurant at NAIT (10701 118 Ave.) is hosting a fundraiser and silent auction for the institution’s Ooks men’s hockey team to help raise funds for non-conference games and to provide enhancements for student athletes.

It’s on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Ernest’s Dining Room, where executive chef Michael Hassell and his team will compose something delicious. The event will begin with cocktails and the viewing of silent auction items at 6 p.m. Dinner is at 7 p.m.

Gear up for grabs includes a signed Leon Draisatl jersey, guest coaching appearances from NAIT Ooks coaches and players, and a chef ’s table donated by Ernest’s. Tacos are great with beer and salsa, but yoga? Apparently so. El Cortez (8230 Gateway Blvd.) and yeg.date are teaming up to host a yoga class series in the Old Strathcona restaurant’s tequila cellar — complete with post-class tacos.

The Feb. 8 session is already sold out. But there are still some tickets available for the March 15 event. The event costs $25 for the class and two tacos. Tickets are available through eventbrite.ca.

Splash Poké (10079 109 St.), the first restaurant in Edmonton to specialize in the popular Hawaiian raw fish salad, is opening a second location on Calgary Trail, near Whitemud Drive. Owner Angela Wong says she expects the new shop to be open by March.

Brunch continues its steady march across the city, with more and more restaurants adding this popular meal to their menus. The Blue Plate Diner (10145 104 St.) was way ahead of the curve, making weekend brunch a specialty for many years. But now, coowners John Williams and Rima Devitt have put brunch on the menu weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. On Saturdays the brunch is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reserve at 780-429-0740.

Also noteworthy is a slight change to the brunch offered at the Dogwood Cafe, located at Victoria Golf Course (12130 River Valley Rd.) and a lovely way to end a brisk cross-country ski around the trails nearby. Operated by the Culina Family of Restaurants, Dogwood has a new, Sunday buffet brunch for $21 that runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Saturday brunch remains a la carte and runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Note: you can’t reserve for brunch, but you can book for the Dogwood Cafe’s Nordic evening meals, which are available Wednesday to Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., featuring cheese fondue. Call 780-442-1636.
