Trudeau taking questions at town hall-style event
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will take questions from the public at a town hall-style gathering on Feb. 1 in Edmonton.
It will be the sixth stop on the prime minister’s mid-mandate town-hall series, which began in Halifax in January.
The town-hall meetings are open to the public. People wishing to attend the event are encouraged to register beforehand, although it’s not mandatory.
A venue has yet to be to be announced.
Trudeau has also held town halls in Hamilton, Ont., London, Ont., and Quebec City. He’ll be in Winnipeg for a town hall next week.
At his Hamilton appearance, Trudeau was confronted by a heckler about the multimillion-dollar settlement the government paid to former Guantanamo Bay inmate Omar Khadr.
The Canadian government paid Khadr a reported $10.5 million to settle a lawsuit that alleged the government violated his Charter rights.
Trudeau fielded questions on immigration and fighting intolerance during his stop in Quebec City, which is preparing to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Jan. 29, 2017, mosque shooting where six men were killed.
According to Trudeau’s official itinerary, he was en route Monday to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Trudeau last visited Edmonton in October, when he met with people at an immigrant settlement organization and the city police officer injured in a Sept. 30 attack.
