BROADWAY ACROSS CANADA
Come From Away is coming
For its 20th anniversary season, Broadway Across Canada has included three shows that set Broadway ablaze and are sure to do the same in Edmonton.
The 2018/2019 season will feature Beautiful – The Carole King Musical, The Illusionists and Come From Away.
Broadway Across Canada vicepresident Shana Levin says they “wanted to pull out all the stops for the 20th anniversary season,” and she stresses the programming for the season “features powerful true stories about community, empowerment and the power of the human spirit.
“They are stories we could all learn from now.”
Beautiful – The Carole King Musical will run at the Jubilee Auditorium Nov. 6-11.
This jukebox musical tells the story of the early life and career of Carole King, who is considered the most successful female songwriter of the second half of the 20th century, having written or collaborated on 118 pop hits between 1955 and 1999.
Taking centre stage at the Jubilee from Jan. 1-6 next year, is The Illusionists, which New York critics described as the Cirque du Soleil of magic shows.
It features a troupe of magicians, each with a different approach to magic and illusion but all featuring dazzling special effects, lighting and sound.
The season closes March 12-17 next year with acclaimed Canadian musical Come From Away, about the small Newfoundland town that hosted 7,000 stranded airline passengers after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Season ticket holders will also have first choice of tickets for two additional shows.
The newest version of Les Miserables makes its return to Edmonton from July 3-8, and The Book of Mormon will return to the Jubilee stage from Sept. 18-23.
The current 2017/2018 Broadway Across Canada season will conclude with Motown the Musical, which runs at the Jubilee Feb. 13-18.
