Red Deer RCMP are investigating after a pickup truck loaded with concrete slammed into Papa Baldy’s Pizza restaurant.

Police were called to the Red Deer restaurant shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday after a truck reversed across the Westview Shopping Plaza parking lot and smashed into the front of Papa Baldy ’s Pizza at 3722 57 Ave.

“While preliminary investigation indicates that this occurrence appears to be intentional, we can’t speculate at this time,” said Red Deer RCMP Staff Sgt. Jeff McBeth.

“All efforts are being made to solve this crime and we are looking for public tips. As always, public tips can be crucial to our ability to solve and reduce crimes.”

Police said three people were either in or near the restaurant at the time of the collision.

A female employee of the restaurant suffered minor injuries.

“We had a very tragic and disgusting thing happen tonight,” read an impassioned post on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

“Our store was attacked by an unknown person. They drove their pickup truck from one end of the parking lot going at full speed in reverse and plowed through the front of the store putting my staff’s lives in danger. They are more than lucky and blessed to be able to walk away with only bumps and bruises.

“I am in total disgust and shock that someone would do something like this and put innocent people in danger.”

The truck is described as a black Dodge Ram.

The rear box had been loaded with concrete.

RCMP investigators said the back of the truck was damaged in the crash.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Red Deer RCMP.
