Graffiti vandal frustrates local property developer JURIS GRANEY

-

This is certainly not the work of Banksy.

While the world famous graffiti artist’s cutting assessment of modern culture through paint brush and spray can has intrigued millions, the vandal or vandals who took aim at Mickie Poon’s property in the Delton neighbourhood will be costly to clean up after.

The property developer estimates it will take thousands of dollars to fix the property located on Yellowhead Trail and 95 Street.

Poon, the chief executive officer of property developer firm KarlenElecom, was mystified when he arrived at work last week to see the word ‘Vaser’ scrawled across a wall measuring five metres high and more than 20 metres long.

“It’s not as though this is in the middle of nowhere,” Poon said.

“This is one of the busiest roads in the city. I have no idea how they could get away with it without being seen.”

Poon said the vandal or vandals defaced his property sometime between April 13 and April 16.

“Being in construction, we were just amazed that someone could do this so quickly,” he said.

“It’s actually alarming.”

The culprits either used a truck with a bucket or, in a less sophisticated method, used a painter’s extension pole, Poon said.

As for what Vaser is referring to, Poon is even more confused. In Spanish the word translates to ‘it will be’ and in Danish it translates to ‘vases.’ It’s also a form of liposuction.

“We are not 100 per cent sure what it is,” he said.

Either way, removing the monstrosity is going to cost some coin. Poon said he reported the case to police and he is hoping that someone driving past remembers seeing who vandalized their property and might be able to help.

“What is shocking is that someone like that is not fearful of being caught,” he said.
