Biker dies from injuries sustained in May 3 crash

-

A 40-year-old man who suffered serious injuries after crashing his motorcycle in south Edmonton earlier this month has died in hospital, say police.

The man was driving east on Saskatchewan Drive from 116 Street on May 3 when he lost control of the machine, skidding several metres before striking the south curb.

Police said neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash.

Seriously injured, he was taken to hospital, where he died Friday, becoming Edmonton’s second traffic fatality of 2018.

The first was April 15, when 16-year-old Chloe Wiwchar was struck by a vehicle about 11 p.m. at the 113 Street and Kingsway Avenue crosswalk where the lights had been activated.

The driver then fled the scene but was later charged.

Edmonton lawyer Shane Stevenson, 47, is charged with impaired driving causing death, driving with a blood-alcohol level over 80 mg causing death, and hit-and-run causing death.

On Saturday afternoon, a 25-year-old motorcyclist was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries after losing control of his bike in west Edmonton.

Investigators believe the rider was travelling north on 184 Street attempting to enter the eastbound ramp onto the Yellowhead when he crashed.
