Pride parade protest misguided

-

The demonstration at the Pride parade Saturday is a paradox upon a paradox. Interrupting the parade that is about safety and inclusiveness to demand the exiling of some groups boggles my mind. Bothering the other never helps find a solution. Insisting on having your own way doesn’t often work well either.

But coming from a long line of rabble-rousing activists, hurrah to you for standing up and demanding to be heard. That’s what happened at Stonewall and still needs to happen.

What about the trans folks in the Canadian Forces? What about the gay cops, who now can’t be proud and out around you? How does help anyone?

I thank the Canadian Forces, the RCMP members and EPS for helping Canada be a place where we are safe enough to try to sort out this situation without weapons, shame or torture being the order of the day.

For sure, there is more to do. I admire your gutsiness, but not some of the exclusions you seem to think will make things better. We can all list folks that make us uncomfortable. Turning them away never helps.
