PEDES­TRIAN FACES MUR­DER CHARGE IN OF­FI­CER’S DEATH

CON­COR­DIA, KAN. A pedes­trian faces charges of sec­ond-de­gree mur­der and pedes­trian un­der the in­flu­ence af­ter a Kansas po­lice of­fi­cer died when his mo­tor­cy­cle crashed into an­other ve­hi­cle that had slowed to avoid the per­son walk­ing on the high­way.

The Con­cor­dia Blade-Empire re­ports 48-year-old Con­cor­dia of­fi­cer Marc Henry was killed Mon­day af­ter­noon on High­way 81 in Ot­tawa County.

“A pedes­trian was walk­ing along the south­bound 81 High­way in Ot­tawa County,” po­lice Lt. Roy Henry told the Con­cor­dia BladeEm­pire. “Ve­hi­cles had slowed to avoid strik­ing the pedes­trian. A white Kia stopped in the lane of traf­fic. A mo­tor­cy­cle driven by Marc Henry rear-ended the Kia.” The news­pa­per re­port did not clar­ify whether the pedes­trian was walk­ing in the traf­fic lane or on the shoul­der.

Henry worked for Clay Cen­ter po­lice, and also was a mem­ber of the Na­tional Guard in the Army and the Ma­rine Corps. Henry will be buried Fri­day with full mil­i­tary honours.
