DISRUPTOR GALLERY POPUP

Twice a year, Robert Sleight hosts a four-hour pop-up gallery with amazing art at great prices in an unusual space. “It’s not really meant to be a static space — it’s meant to be dynamic and fun,” he said. This iteration, at a studio over Find on Jasper Avenue, is especially full of great work — just have a look at the artists and craftspeople: Andrew Benson, Brenda Draney, Dana Holst, Alayne Spafford, Anya Tonkonogy, Loyal Loot and Stranger Studio.

Draney, let’s remember, won the 2009 Royal Bank Canadian Painting Competition and was also one of five finalists for the Sobey Art Award. Holst, meanwhile, had a terrific show at AGA in 2015. This is a great opportunity to start collecting art.

BLACKBYRD MYOOZIK ANNIVERSARY SALE

Is there any place lovelier than a good record shop? A mainstay of Old Strathcona since 1993, Blackbyrd has always gone above and beyond its duty, including hosting legendary concerts by Hayden, Richard Buckner and Jessica Jalbert. To celebrate their 25th, they’re having a big warehouse sale, which will include some prices being slashed by as much as 75 per cent, lots of used records at 50 per cent and a bunch of $1 discount LPs. There will also be lots of door prizes, so don’t miss out. It’s all happening at the warehouse (not the store). Details: 10 a.m.–5 p.m. at Blackbyrd warehouse (8220 104 St.), no charge

CAPTAIN TRACTOR

It’s night two of Captain Tractor’s 25th birthday celebrations. The band’s Chris Wynters recently reminisced, “We played the Grey Cup, big outdoor events, festivals all over the world. We used to get in a van, play 250 shows in a year. We’d go from playing Street Scene in San Diego to sleeping in the Target parking lot in Monterrey and then having our own suite at the Embassy Suites hotel. We went from bathrobe gigs to sleeping in the van, night and day.” Check ahead to see if this one’s sold out. Details: 7 p.m. at The Station on Jasper (10524 Jasper Ave.), $24 at stationonjasper.com; $30 at the door
