-

Alberta’s police watchdog says a Mountie shot a man on Tuesday in Grande Prairie during an exchange of gunfire with two suspects after a pickup rammed an RCMP cruiser. No police officers were hurt. Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) investigators say the 21-year-old suspect who was shot was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The other suspect, who is 29, was arrested.

Two sawed-off long-barrelled firearms were recovered.

Team investigators say they will focus on the circumstances of the officer-involved shooting and whether police conduct was lawful.

The team investigates when police are involved in the serious injury or death to any person, as well as allegations of police misconduct.
