Get your children cleaning up the house for real

Kids don’t have to just pretend they’re vacuuming anymore with functional toy

- Melissa Hank

Why let kids pretend to clean up around the house when they can actually clean up around the house — if only a little?

Enter the Dyson Ball Toy Vacuum. Priced at $39.99 at the Canadian Bed Bath & Beyond website (and available on Amazon.ca), the miniature version of the popular Dyson Ball Vacuum actually sucks up dust, debris and small pieces of paper. The cyclone action is simulated with confetti cheerfully bouncing about in a see-through canister.

Available in pink, purple and yellow, the vacuum is battery operated and features a removable dustbin. The toy is meant for kids aged three and up, according to developer Casdon Toys.

“Little ones adore role play and pretending that they are doing jobs around the house — just like the grown-ups!” reads Casdon’s description. “So your little helper will really feel part of your world while developing essential life skills.”

Parents are already excited about the product: The vacuum currently has four-and-a-half stars on Amazon.ca, based on 36 reviews.

“My little girl loves helping around the house and this toy has been great for that!” wrote one reviewer. “She feels like she has a real vacuum while I don’t have to vacuum with a toddler holding my actual vacuum!”

Some parents were less enthusiastic, though, wishing that the construction was sturdier and that the toy picked up heftier fare.
