Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria

From Naples with love

- Amy HAncock

Eating pizza on the streets of Italy is an experience you will never forget. Neapolitan-style pizza offers a thin, crispy but soft and foldable crust. Made-from-scratch tomato sauces are topped with a few high-quality ingredients, including fresh basil and fior di latte, a rich and creamy cheese invented in the birthplace of pizza — Naples, Italy.

This authentic, unforgettable culinary experience is available right here in Edmonton, thanks to Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria, winner of Gold in the pizza category for this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards.

After visiting Naples in 2005, Famoso founders wanted to recreate and make that incredible pizza available in Edmonton. Famoso opened its first location in Edmonton in 2007. The restaurant now has 30 locations across Canada, including 10 in the Edmonton area.

Famoso Italian Pizzeria has stayed true to traditional techniques, authentic ingredients and the culinary traditions in pizza-making that have gone unchanged for over 200 years. Their pizza dough is made fresh daily and every pizza is handstretched and cooked in a fire bell oven.

Though Neapolitan pizza is the main draw for this neighbourhood pizzeria, there are plenty of choices on the menu, including New World pizzas, tapas, plates to share, artisan pastas and perfectly pairing beverages.

Famoso will be launching a new and expanded menu starting at its Magrath location and coming to all locations in early 2019. Staying true to Italian culinary authenticity, “More Italiano” will introduce family-kept recipes and sauces, new tapas, sandwiches, pastas and entrees.

At Famoso, it’s all about providing a true Italian pizzeria experience in a fun and lively atmosphere right here at home.
