Three men hospitalized, eight arrested following rave

Three men were transported to hospital — one in life-threatening condition — and eight people were arrested on drug charges following a dance music event hosted at the Shaw Conference Centre Thursday night.

Alberta Health Services spokesperson Kerry Williamson said all of those hospitalized after attending the Get Together rave are men in their 20s.

Two of the men were listed as being in serious condition.

Just what injuries they suffered cannot be released because of patient confidentiality, he said.

Event organizers had their own contracted health-care providers on site which means that Alberta Health Services “wouldn’t necessarily know about all health-care responses,” added Williamson.

Edmonton police spokesperson Cheryl Voordenhout said during the arrests officers seized 400 MDMA pills, commonly referred to as Molly or ecstasy, and a quantity of cocaine.

One of those arrested, a 20-yearold man, was taken into custody and charged with seven charges related to drug trafficking, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

In October, six people were transported to hospital from the Soundwave dance event held at West Edmonton Mall’s World Waterpark.

Those numbers are in stark contrast to two other raves held earlier this summer. No patients were transported from the Bomfest Outdoor Music Concert held at the Edmonton Expo Centre over the Labour Day long weekend and just one person was taken to hospital in stable condition from Stacked 2018, held at the Shaw Conference Centre on Sept. 15.

Organizers could not immediately be reached for comment.
