Man faces charges for stealing ambulance

-

Blood Tribe police say an ambulance was stolen Wednesday while paramedics were treating a patient.

The incident happened on Wednesday between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., when Blood Tribe EMS were called to assess a person in custody at the Blood Tribe Police Service building.

“While EMS personnel were treating the patient inside the police building, a male walked up to the ambulance that was parked in the BTPS parking lot and drove off with it,” police said in a news release Friday.

Police say the ambulance then hit a vehicle on Highway 2 and failed to stop at the collision. Officers later found the vehicle parked outside a home in the Moses Lake community.

Melvin Mountain Horse has been charged with theft, dangerous driving, driving while prohibited and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

He is in custody and is scheduled to appear in Cardston provincial court on Jan. 14.
