Two men charged after fight outside nightclub

-

Two people were arrested after a fight outside a Jasper nightclub in late January that involved broken glass, an assault on a police officer and the use of a Taser.

In a news release Wednesday, Jasper RCMP said at around 1:15 a.m. on Jan. 27, officers responded to a call for assistance from bouncers for the Athabasca Hotel nightclub about a fight involving multiple people.

Police were able to break up the fight and arrest two men. However, police say one man resisted arrest and assaulted one of the officers. The man was then hit with a Taser in order to take him into custody.

Jasper emergency medical services treated one man at the scene who suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries after a glass was broken on his head. He was taken to hospital and released in the morning.

Ryley William Miller, 26, of Edson, has been charged with assault, resisting arrest and assaulting a peace officer.

Michael Cyrull, 29, of Spruce Grove, has been charged with assault and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Both suspects are scheduled to appear in Jasper provincial court on Feb. 14.
