Guerrero belts first two homers

- Postmedia News Services

Toronto Blue Jays rookie Vlad Guerrero Jr. hit his first major-league home run in the first inning against the Giants in San Francisco Tuesday. It came in the same stadium his father, Vlad Guerrero Sr., won the 2007 Home Run Derby.

The ball went to the deepest part of the field, measured by Statcast at a whopping 438 feet. It made the prized prospect the youngest player in Jays history to bang his first home run.

He even got one up on his Hall of Fame father, who was 21 years and 224 days old before he first homered. Vlad Jr. was just 20 years and 59 days entering Tuesday’s game.

Guerrero wasn’t done yet, adding a three-run homer in the sixth inning.

Meanwhile, Red Sox ace Chris Sale struck out a career-high 17 in just seven innings against Colorado, then was pulled after 108 pitches in Boston. Sale became the first pitcher in major league history to fan 17 in a start of no more than seven innings.
