Edmonton homicide detectives are investigating the suspicious death of a 48-year-old man in the city’s northwest.

Officers were called to a home near 185 Street and 121 Avenue at approximately 6:20 p.m. Wednesday, police said in a release Thursday evening.

Shortly before 10 p.m. a damaged blue Chevrolet pickup truck and what appeared to be a body could be seen in a grass field next to Yellowhead Trail. Police said Thursday the body of a 48-year-old man was discovered.

Police vehicles were at the scene on Thursday morning. The truck hadn’t moved but the body was gone.

Police tape cordoned off the field as well as a dirt trail leading from the field to a neighbouring road. A couple dozen police markers could be seen throughout the field, and trail and tire marks could be seen running through both areas.

In the morning, two police vehicles were seen at a house backing onto the field.

Neighbours of the home said the street is generally a very quiet area and nobody Postmedia spoke to said they had heard anything before police arrived.

An autopsy conducted Thursday was inconclusive and the cause and manner of death remain undetermined.

Homicide detectives continue to investigate and no one is currently in custody.

Investigators are urging anyone who may have been in the area yesterday evening and may have information about this suspicious death to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.
