SHED A LITTLE CLOTHING WEIGHT

- aharris@postmedia.com

A change of seasons ushers in a changing of the guard, so to speak, in one’s closet. In spring, cashmere sweaters and nubby knits are supplanted by soft layering T-shirts and (if the weather is on our side) sandals. Writer Aleesha Harris rounded up five must-have MVPs (most valuable products) to add to your style rotation this spring. Good jeans

$118 | Levi’s; levi.com

A great pair of jeans can go pretty much anywhere and be worn with pretty much everything. These Levi’s Ribcage Straight Jeans in the wash Get It Done are one of those pairs. Thanks to the belted tie at the waist, they’re perfectly appropriate for many workplaces (especially on casual Fridays) when worn with elevated items such as a black turtleneck and pointed-toe pumps. Pair these high-waisted jeans — they’re the highest rise yet for the American denim brand — with a simple T-shirt and sneakers for an effortless weekend look.

Bold blazer

$180.05 | Nordstrom; nordstrom.com

Tailored pieces are oh-so on trend this season, with the blazer being named one of the top items to add to your closet. If you’re already a blazer fan and boast a few basic shades such as black, blue or camel in your wardrobe at home, consider picking up a piece in an eye-catching hue like this Halogen Stretch Twill Blazer. The bright red shade is sure to liven up any look. Wear it with a contrasting pink blouse and slacks for a seriously stylish take on the trend.

Well dressed

$453.60 | Nordstrom; nordstrom.com

Jump into the “utility” trend with this Vince shirt-dress. The style may feature a neutral hue, but this piece is anything but basic. The waist-cinching tie belt adds a figure-flattering shape to this piece, while a midi length ensures it will work for both the office and, well, everywhere else. Pair this piece with a boldly coloured shoe for a fun take on the contrasting trend of the season that sees neutral hues set against bold neons.

Sleek slides

$100 | Cougarshoes.com Stepping out in style this season is a cinch thanks to a leather slide like these Cougar “Perth” slide sandals in Kid suede. The camel hue ticks the neutral trend category, while the double-stacked sole gives these simple sandals an elevated (literally) appeal. Plus, these chic sandals are sure to appeal with those who can’t stand the idea of fiddling with finicky straps. Just slip your feet in, and go.

Pretty pearls

$320 | Pamelacardjewelry.com Pearls are having a revival in the jewelry realm. But, rather than perfect, white orbs on staid strands of a necklace, the prettiest pearl pieces of the season are those that are perfectly imperfect. (Think: natural pearls of irregular shapes and sizes.) This Temple of Artemis necklace from Pamela Card proves just how attractive these unique pieces can be. The design features a “Roman inspired rosary cross” in 24-karat gold-plated silver encircling a freshwater Biwa pearl. The eye-catching piece hangs on a delicate rope chain. Prepare to wear it with everything.
