MLC Group aims to draw in young families with kid-friendly activities

-

MLC Group is putting families first with show home events this weekend and next at its Secord and Desrochers Villages communities in Edmonton.

Today (May 25), from noon to 4 p.m., the spotlight is on Secord West, featuring 21 show homes by seven top builders — Jayman Built, Crimson Cove Homes, Coventry Homes, Pacesetter Homes, Sterling Homes, City Homes and Daytona Homes.

“This is kind of a pop-up event, with food trucks for everyone and bouncy castles for the kids,” says MLC president Chris Nicholas. It’s all in keeping with the family-oriented nature of the community and designed to make house hunting easy for Mom and Dad, he says.

Townhomes start in the $290,000s, single-family homes with rear, detached garages start in the $340,000s and front-attached-garage homes are $420,000 and up, Nicholas says. Secord can be reached by taking Anthony Henday Highway to the 87th Avenue exit and proceeding west.

Nicholas says prices and home designs are aimed at meeting the needs young families planning to buy their first home or those looking to move up from their first home to a place with room to grow. Both Secord West and Secord Heights have a full array of town houses and single-family models. Secord Heights features show homes by Jayman, Sterling, Daytona and City builders, while Secord West has show homes by Crimson Cove, Coventry and Pacesetter.

Secord’s family-friendly amenities include an artificial wetland, sports fields and a skating rink within the community and a K-9 school within walking distance to the north.

It’s adjacent to Heritage Valley Town Centre, with West Edmonton Mall and Misericordia Hospital only five minutes away by car and several golf courses close by. An LRT station on the Capital Line is planned to be built within the community.

The June 1 event at Desrochers Villages will offer kettle corn, food trucks, ice cream, bouncy castles, sweets — and 10 show homes. Featured models include town houses by Sterling, Streetside and Pacesetter, starting in the $290,000s, plus single-family homes by Jayman, Landmark and Pacesetter, with rear-detached-garage designs in the $340,000s and front-attached garages from $420,000.

Desrochers, west of Calgary Trail on 41st Avenue, is just 15 minutes from the Edmonton International Airport. It has 5.6 hectares (14 acres) of green space and ponds, plus a K-9 school — and a new high school is under construction for a planned opening in 2021.

Nicholas says both Secord and Desrochers are midway through development, with about three years to go until they’re fully built out. Builders in both communities offer financial assistance for home buyers, including in-house financing and assistance with financial planning and mortgage approvals.
