New murder charge laid in Edmonton woman’s death
Sixth person arrested after body of 25-year-old found in Saskatchewan
A sixth person has been charged in connection with the death of an Edmonton woman who went missing in May during a trip to Saskatchewan.
Twenty-five-year-old Tiki Brook-lyn Laverdiere was reported missing on May 12.
An RCMP canine unit found her body on July 11 during a ground search of a rural area near North Battleford, Sask.
Laverdiere travelled to Saskatchewan to attend the funeral of Tristen Cook-buckle, an Edmonton man who was found dead near Vegreville in April.
A sixth person is now facing charges in relation to Laverdiere’s death. Saskatchewan RCMP said in a news release Wednesday Lloydminster RCMP arrested a 33-yearold woman from the Onion Lake Cree Nation at a home in Lloydminster on Tuesday. Soaring Eagle Whitstone is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, improperly interfering with a human body and theft of a motor vehicle.
RCMP previously charged Jesse Sangster, 23, with accessory after the fact to murder and theft of a motor vehicle; Nicole Cook, 36, with first-degree murder, kidnapping, improperly interfering with a human body and theft of a motor vehicle; Shayla Orthner, 27, with first-degree murder, kidnapping, improperly interfering with a human body and theft of a motor vehicle; Danita Thomas, 32, with first-degree murder, kidnapping, improperly interfering with a human body and theft of a motor vehicle; and Brent Checkosis, 18, with accessory after the fact to murder, improperly interfering with a human body and theft of a motor vehicle.
