Two charged after raid nets guns, drugs

Two people are facing a total of 40 charges after guns, drugs and cash were seized in Edmonton last month.

The Alberta Law Enforcemen­t Response Team’s (ALERT) Edmonton organized crime and gang team made the seizure on July 17 after searching homes in the Hamptons and Crystallin­a Nera neighbourh­oods, a news release said Tuesday. Edmonton police and RCMP assisted in executing the search warrants.

Two of the handguns were loaded when they were seized and one was equipped with a suppressor. Police said they had been reported stolen from Mayerthorp­e, Strathcona County and Grande Prairie.

The guns will now undergo forensic tests to determine if they were used in any crimes.

The drugs seized are estimated to hold a street value of $400,000.

In total police seized, 2.4 kilograms of cocaine, 25 kilograms of a cocaine buffing agent, one kilogram of methamphet­amine, 305 grams of MDMA, four kilograms of dried cannabis alongside other cannabis products and more than 350 assorted packages of illicit steroids.

“We’re proud of the significan­t results this investigat­ion yielded in a relatively short period time,” said Insp. Marc Cochlin with ALERT Edmonton in the release. “Getting these weapons and drugs off the street will go a long way toward making our communitie­s safer.”

Police also seized $166,000 in cash.

Cody Hilton, 32, and Connie Liu, 53, are facing charges of possession of drugs for the purpose of traffickin­g, possession of cannabis for distributi­on, possession of property obtained by crime and a number of firearm-related offences.
