World 100m champ Gatlin OK after scare with hamstring

-

Reigning world 100-metres champion Justin Gatlin should be back training within the week, after tests came back negative for a possible hamstring injury, his manager said Wednesday.

The American sprinter slowed noticeably about 65 metres into a race he was leading and began grabbing his left hamstring before finishing fourth in Zagreb on Tuesday.

“He said he started to feel something grabbing, so he immediately tried to protect against any potential injury occurring,” Renaldo Nehemiah said.

Tests to Gatlin’s hamstring “showed he still had 100 per cent strength in the leg and there were no adhesions or anything,” Nehemiah added.

It was the second time within a week the 37-year-old had slowed in a race while leading.

The Zagreb race was Gatlin’s last before defending his world title in Doha later this month.

Jayson Tatum could be sidelined two games with a sprained left ankle suffered Tuesday in basketball Team USA’S overtime victory against Turkey.

Tatum was ruled out for five days after being examined Wednesday, one day after he turned the ankle working his way through traffic in the lane in the final minute of overtime.

A US$400,000 settlement offer from the City of Milwaukee to Bucks guard Sterling Brown is not expected to be accepted, since the player also is looking for admission that his civil rights were violated, the Milwaukee Journal-sentinel reported Wednesday.

The settlement offer stems from an incident on July 26, 2018, when Brown was illegally parked in a handicapped spot at a Walgreens. After officers arrived on the scene, the incident escalated to the point where a stun gun was used on Brown when he did not remove his hands from his pockets after he was ordered to do so. A police body camera recorded the exchange.
