Parking ban trial coming to Gold Bar, Silver Berry

- JEFF LABINE

The city is trying out a parking ban in the Gold Bar and Silver Berry area to see if it will improve snow clearing.

The plan is to have two snow clearing days, which will fall on Mondays and Tuesdays. Half of the road will be cleared each day. Edmontonians parking on the street will have to move their vehicles, depending on what day the clearing takes place.

For example, houses with addresses ending in an odd number will be placed under a parking ban and bladed on Mondays. On Tuesdays, it will be the side with even-numbered homes’ turn.

The trial is slated to start once the snow falls.

Anyone failing to move their vehicle could face a $100 fine.

The parking ban will only be enforced when the city announces a residential blading cycle.

Accessible parking stalls and windrow-free zones will be cleared regardless of what day it is. Culde-sacs will be excluded from the parking ban because of equipment limitations.

The city has scheduled two information sessions about the trial ban. For Gold Bar residents, the information session will be on Oct. 28 from 4-7 p.m. at the Gold Bar Community League, Social Room (Skate Shack), at 4620 105 Ave. NW.

The following day at the same time, Silver Berry residents will have their information session at the Meadows Community Recreation Centre, 2704-17 St., in Multi-purpose room 102.

Those who can’t make either session can visit the city’s website or call 311.
