Ackard Contractors Ltd.

- JOANNE MCGOWAN

Quality is important to us. It’s what brings the results you’ll love.

As the owners of Ackard Contractors Ltd., Richard Plamondon and Aquilino Naccarato recognize that the satisfaction of their customers is the foundation of their renovation and homebuilding business. Voted the Gold Winner for the sixth year in a row in the Home Renovator category, the team at Ackard is proud of the joy they bring to their clientele. “We started Ackard in 1982, but the two of us have been in the industry longer than that,” says Plamondon of his long-time friendship with Naccarato, which has seen them become leaders in Edmonton’s home-renovation scene. “We specialize in anything, from kitchens, bathrooms and basements, or a big addition on the main floor plus a whole new second storey. There’s not much we won’t do residentially.” Adds Naccarato, “And we’ve had customers where we started out renovating their basement, and then, three or four years later, we’ve added an addition and then built their garage – and now we’re building additions for their kids’ homes, too.” Much of Ackard’s longevity can be attributed to both Plamondon and Naccarato’s experience, but also to the vision they share with their team. “We have a really amazing team that has the same values as Aquilino and I, in that quality is important to us. It’s what brings the results you’ll love,” says Plamondon. “That’s our tagline, and we really are proud of that. And it’s not just our people, but our trade partners and suppliers have to be part of that, too.” The entire renovation process is a team effort from the beginning, and Ackard utilizes the expertise of their designers, plus a 3D-program that helps clients decide on what design works for them. “People want to visualize what they’re ending up with, so we do conceptual drawings and give a 3D-vision where we walk you through the house,” says Plamondon. “We also have photos from thousands of unique projects over the years, and it’s nice to show those to offer different ideas.” Looking forward to 2020, Plamondon says designers are noticing trends going from cool greys back towards warmer colours again. Adds Naccarato, “Probably the biggest trend we’re seeing, though, is toward that modern farmhouse look and more of an open concept but with sliding doors or room dividers.” Regardless of the home renovation trends forthcoming in the New Year, 2020 is also sure to see the team at Ackard continuing their charitable involvement, both locally with non-profit organizations and internationally. “We’ve gone to the Dominican to build houses, and we’re also involved with the Canadian Volunteers for International Development Society, which sends doctors to Ecuador,” says Naccarato. “We’re so fortunate to have what we have, and it’s important to give back because you get that much more back in return,” adds Plamondon. “So whether it’s in another country or here in Edmonton, you have to give back if you can, and our team really believes in that.”
