This father-son duo specializes in everything you’d expect from expert homebuilders
Christopher Keith Homes Ltd. is a family-run business that’s been making a splash on the Edmonton housing scene – and in this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards. Voted as the Silver Winner in the Home Renovator category and the Bronze Winner in the Home Builder category, the team at CK Homes boast nearly 40 years of housing experience.
“I started framing houses during the summer when I was 18 until I was 20. Then I learned every aspect of housebuilding and renovating while becoming a cabinet maker and finishing carpenter working on some of the most prestigious builds in Edmonton, with Scott Arthur Homes,” describes Chris Chalmers, co-owner of CK Homes with his father, Larry, who brings 37 years of experience to the team himself.
This father-son duo specializes in everything you’d expect from expert homebuilders, including custom-built and custom-infill homes, all major and minor home renovations, plus additions and extensions.
“Because we’re a small familyowned company, we’re able to communicate with customers daily, and focusing on the smallest details of any project ensures successful completion and a positive building experience,” says Chalmers. “Also, due to the nature of our corporate structure, we’re able to outsource the best new building materials, products and procedures, plus working with the best subcontractors helps us stay ahead of building codes and design trends.”
Speaking of trends, Chalmers is noticing an influx of younger families moving into older neighbourhoods.
“With Edmonton’s growth, new developments are increasingly distant from the central core, so young families are moving back into the neighbourhoods they grew up in as kids,” says Chalmers. “They’re seeking out older houses in need of updating – sometimes it’s just a cosmetic fix, but sometimes it’s a full-house renovation where everything must go.”
And with all the decisions that come with this process, the team at CK Homes will go out of their way to make it as seamless as possible.
“We pride ourselves on everything we do being custom to the specific customer, and I’ll personally visit showrooms with them to help with decision-making, from cabinets to plumbing, or flooring to exterior options,” says Chalmers.
“If I can make the design process smoother, then the construction process will be smoother, too.”
