MUSIC APPRECIATI­ON LECTURES: HISTORY OF THE CHRISTMAS CAROL

Ever wonder where Christmas carols came from? Come and learn about the history behind some holiday favourites at this active listening course. You can also learn about some obscure, old carols from the Oxford Books of Carols.

BUTTERDOME HOLIDAY CRAFT SALE

As the holidays draw near, the Butterdome Holiday Craft Sale is a great place to find handmade gifts for the pickiest members of your family (or yourself). This year, more than 280 makers from across Canada will show off their wares and tell their stories.

When: Thursday, Nov. 28 - Sunday, Dec. 1. Weekdays, 10 a.m. - 10 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Where: University of Alberta Butterdome, 87 Ave. and 114 St.

TIPI TEACHINGS

Learn from elders at this event, where you will participat­e in a tipi raising, and learn about Indigenous cultures. The event is put on by the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues, Bent Arrow Traditiona­l Healing Society and Sherbrooke Community League.

When: Sunday, Dec. 1, 1 - 4 p.m.

DEEP RELAXATION WITH TUNE UP BALLS

Get active and stay healthy at this informativ­e and relaxing class, designed for people 55 years or older. The course will take you through the basic use of tune up balls and some easy yoga moves to help ease tense muscles and improve circulatio­n.

When: Tuesdays, Dec. 3, 10 and 17, 10 - 11 a.m.

Where: Westend Seniors Activity Centre, 9629 176 St.

Info: Membership required. It costs $30 for a year, and membership­s must be purchased in person at the centre. CHRISTMAS IN THE

COUNTRY

Hop on the bus and take a tour around Strathcona County. The will take attendees to Strathcona County, where a county bus will take them around and stop at five different places in the rural region. There, attendees can get off and enjoy various Christmas markets and musical events.

When: Saturday, Dec. 7, depart from Sage at 10 a.m., return to Sage around 4 p.m.

Where: Bus picks people up and drops them off at Sage Seniors Associatio­n, 15 Sir Winston Churchill Square

Info: Tickets cost $25. Registrati­on needs to be done by Friday, Nov. 29 as there are only 20 spots available. There are indoor and outdoor segments to the trip so make sure to bring warm clothing. LUNCH AND A PROGRAM

Who doesn’t love turkey? This fun event features a festive meal of turkey and the trimmings, set to a holiday choral performanc­e. Presented by the Petrolia Seniors Group, it’s a great way to spend time with old friends and make some new ones in a warm, inviting atmosphere.

When: Tuesday, Dec. 10, 11:45 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

CHRISTMAS DINNER

It’s time to celebrate this holiday season. Join your friends and loved ones for a traditiona­l turkey dinner. Put on by the North West Edmonton Seniors Society, the event includes all the fixings of a holiday dinner and some entertainm­ent put on by the group’s Drama Club and Calder Cuties.

When: Friday, Dec. 13. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., dinner is at 5 p.m.
