Boys taken to hospital with serious injuries
Two teenage boys were sent to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries Friday afternoon after a stabbing took place outside of Northgate Centre mall.
Edmonton city police said in a news release a fight occurred and two boys were stabbed outside the Northgate Centre near 94 Street and 137 Avenue just before 1 p.m.
A male suspect then fled the area on foot.
Paramedics treated the two victims and transported them to hospital.
Alberta Health Services said the two boys were in stable condition.
Officers continued to search for the suspect.
Around five police cruisers were parked outside of the Walmart entrance, which had police tape across it to keep patrons from using those doors.
Paul Longbottom, who was coming to the mall to take care of a phone bill, said when he arrived, he saw police escorting an ambulance very quickly.
“(They) were giving (the ambulance) a convoy kind of thing,” he said. “They were rushing and flying there.”
Brianna Hughes says that she comes to the mall at least three times a week.
“I wonder if we are safe here inside,” she said. “Clearly they are looking for someone. I think some of the people who are around here are pretty rough. I don’t think inside the mall but maybe around the outskirts. I know near the transit station there have been a bunch of issues there.”
Hughes said she wouldn’t stop coming to the mall since it’s the closest one to her home but the incident did make her more hesitant.
