TANYA TAGAQ WITH THE ESO

-

A very special show indeed featuring one of Canada’s most engaging performers. Translated as “Grief,” Inuit composer and throat singer Tanya Tagaq’s Qiksaaktuq is a moving orchestral work dedicated to the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women. The evening also features Edmonton Symphony Orchestra chief conductor Alexander Prior conducting Prokofiev’s Third Symphony and Webern’s Passacaglia. If you’ve never seen Tagaq perform, this night in the soft seats confronting the hard truth promises to be exceptional. Bonus: musicologist D.T. Baker discusses the program at 7 p.m. in the Upper Circle Lobby beforehand. Details: 8 p.m. at Winspear Centre (4 Sir Winston Churchill Sq.), $25 and up at winspearcentre.com
