CAN YOU ‘TIRE OUT’ THIS CROC?

-

Officials in Indonesia are offering a reward for anyone able to remove a tire slung around a four-metre crocodile’s neck, according to the Antara news agency. The croc, which may be of the endangered Siamese species, has been swimming in the waters near Palu City with a motorcycle tire lodged behind its head since at least 2016. Fewer than 1,000 Siamese crocodiles are thought to exist.

“A reward will be given to anyone who can release the hapless reptile,” said Hasmuni Hasmar, head of the Central Sulawesi Natural Resources Conservation Office. No details were included.

It’s feared the tire could eventually strangle the growing croc. There have been several attempts to dislodge the rubber ring, including by a conservationist and an animal whisperer. Other efforts to entice the beast into a trap using chicken also failed.
