WAFER THIN MINTS

-

The origins of this roots-inspired-pop band go back to the late 1990s when guitarist and songwriter Pat Strain spent the latter part of the ’90s living in Toronto, observing and working in the music scene there as a sometime roadie for bands The Pursuit of Happiness, the Waltons, Robin Black and the Intergalactic Rock Stars. The band’s sound cuts across rock, urban folk, country and power pop with a tip of the hat to that lost genre, pub rock. The Edmonton based band is Strain: vocals, acoustic guitar; Russ Baker: electric guitar; Troy Nowaselski: bass, vocals; John Newton: drums. Sociable! Details: 4 p.m. at The Black Dog Freehouse (10425 82 Ave.), no cover
