Walterdale cancels its final three shows of season
Local theatre fans will be waiting a while for curtains to rise.
Walterdale Theatre is the latest production company to feel the effects of COVID-19, cancelling the 2019-20 season’s remaining shows as a result of ongoing public health initiatives.
Three Walterdale productions are affected by the shutdown. Dark comedy 5 @ 50, originally scheduled to run from April 1-11, had already been cancelled due to restrictions on gatherings.
Two other productions — From Cradle to Stage, slated for May 11-16, and Merrily We Roll Along, scheduled for July 8-18 — have also been shuttered as a result of COVID -19.
“Thank you to the many volunteers who already devoted countless hours to these productions,” Walterdale Theatre organizers said in a news release.
“We are monitoring events closely, and we hope to be able to offer our production of 5 @ 50 by Brad Fraser in the fall of 2020. However, given the evolving nature of the public health situation, we can’t at this time confirm production dates.”
Three options are available to patrons who already purchased tickets to the cancelled productions. Theatregoers can use their existing tickets as credit for future stagings, donate the unused amount to the Walterdale Theatre in exchange for a donation receipt, or receive either a full refund for any unused single tickets or a pro-rated amount of their subscription, Flex Pass, or Sixpack ticket packages.
While ticket offices are closed to walk-up traffic, patrons are invited to call TIX on the Square at 780-420-1757 or email tix@tixonthesquare.ca to make their selection.
“Thank you to all our patrons, volunteers, and supporters as we all face this difficult time together. We hope that everyone stays well, and our thoughts and support go out to everyone who is affected.”
