Telefilm backs Black movies

Telefilm Canada will put $100,000 a year toward the creation of a Black Screen Office. The Crown corporation made the announcement Wednesday after meeting with filmmakers who have called for the formation of an institution dedicated to expanding the reach of Black stories onscreen. Telefilm Canada came under fire last month when those in the industry said it should do more to support marginalized creators.
