A PRETTY CLEAR LOOK AT THE 2021 BMW M4 COUPE

-

Making its world premiere on the Red Bull Ring, the 2021 BMW M4 Coupe appears to bear the same mug as its 4-Series counterpart. But at least you won’t be able to see its nose from the driver’s seat, and you’ll want to drive it, given what we know about the power plant residing behind that grille. The core component shared by all new M4s is a tasty twin-turbo straight six, a mill that first appeared in M versions of the X3 and X4. It will likely produce about 480 horsepower in the standard M4, and just over 500 in the Competition model. The new M4 has another trick up its sleeve: a manual transmission. At launch, it’ll be one of two gearboxes available with the twin-turbo six-pot engine, a refreshing departure from the barrage of automatic-only sports cars over the past couple of years. However, the M4 Competition will only come with the auto, given that car’s directive of producing fast lap times above all other considerations (BMW knows the computer can probably shift faster than you can).
