Homicide detectives are investigating after a fatal shooting in west Edmonton Sunday morning.

Just after 6:15 a.m., officers responded to calls of a weapons complaint at a home near 105 Avenue and 157 Street, a news release said Sunday afternoon.

At the scene, officers found a man appearing to be suffering from serious, life-threatening wounds. He was treated and transported to hospital where he later died.

Homicide investigators have taken over the case and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

If the autopsy confirms the man's death is a homicide, it would be the third in Edmonton this year.

Anyone with information of suspicious activity or vehicles in the area is asked to call EPS at 780-423-4567.

Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers.

The man's death comes a day after Edmonton police responded to calls of multiple gunshots in the area of 162 Avenue and 61 Street around 1:15 a.m. Saturday morning. When they arrived they searched the area and found bullet casings. No suspects have been identified.

EPS spokeswoman Cheryl Sheppard said police are continuing to investigate and anyone with information is asked to call them.

Meanwhile, a friend of two people found killed in an Edmonton home earlier this month said she's filled with questions about what could have led to their deaths.

Deidra Aldridge and Daniel Grandbois were found dead in a home near 111 Street and 78 Avenue by police on Jan. 6. Police said neither victim lived at the house.

Keisha Monias, who used to live with Aldridge and was close with Grandbois, said she doesn't know why either one of them would have been in the home and noted that Aldridge hardly ever spent time in south Edmonton.

She said she didn't know anyone that would want to harm them and that they never had problems with other people.

“Both of them were nice to everyone, they got along with everyone. It's not like they ran into problems all the time,” said Monias.

“I have so many questions that I want answered.”

She said she will remember Aldridge for her caring nature.

“She gave everyone a chance,” said Monias. “She just had a really big heart (and) always cared about everyone.”

Monias said she was very close to Grandbois, calling him “more of a brother than a friend.”

“They're going to be truly missed, may they rest in peace,” said Monias.

Police are continuing to investigate their deaths and are asking anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area where they were killed to contact EPS.
