Police seek jewel thief after armed robbery

-

City police are looking for an armed thief who allegedly assaulted a jewelry store worker and stole an undisclosed amount of jewelry. Crime scene tape wrapped around an entrance to Lemarchand Mansion on 100 Avenue Wednesday afternoon as officers investigated the scene. A witness told Postmedia there was a pool of blood outside Kline Fine Jewellery & Design, located inside the building. A bloodied man with a bandage wrapped around his head emerged from the building. Police put out a news release on Friday in response to questions from Postmedia. Officers were called around 3:15 p.m. and were told one man went into the store with a firearm, assaulted a male employee, took an “undisclosed amount jewelry,” then ran away, police said in the release. The suspect is described as a man in his 30s around 5-feet-10 with an average build. At the time, he was wearing a fur hat, glasses, face mask, dark-coloured jacket, dark blue jeans, and black shoes with white soles. He was also carrying a black bag. Paramedics responded and took a 68-year-old worker to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been released. Edmonton Police Services' robbery section is investigating the theft and asks anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
