My Track Record
When I was on Council, I got things done. I made tough choices, I put myself out there, and stood up for what was right — even when it was unpopular. It’s who I was as a Councillor, and who I will be as your next Mayor.
Here are some examples:
• Upass: I worked with Edmonton’s post secondary institutions to make unlimited transit available to students.
• Municipal airport closure: I looked at the data and did the math. I put my election on the line. Our municipal airport was unviable and a burden to our taxpayers—and it was standing in the way of development in our downtown.
• Neighbourhood renewal: When I got to Council, we had a reactive, too-little-too-late approach to neighbourhood maintenance that left them falling into costly disrepair. I helped establish this self-sustaining funding model, so our neighbourhoods get the attention they need when they need it.
• Best Bar None: To address issues of dangerous and costly crime in some areas of our city, I brought stakeholders together to create a voluntary program that recognized responsible bars and pubs that were helping keep our city and their patrons safe.
