Dance abounds around town this weekend

- JENNY FENIAK

As artists explore the human experience in their work, climate change and the related disasters are starting to appear more often on centre stage.

The latest production from Mile Zero Dance — and the company's biggest of the season — will be staged this weekend at FAVA'S Orange Hub, 10045 156 St. In a series of vignettes, the impacts of climate change and how we are responding is explored as both a lament and a warning.

The Real Disaster Show sees MZD artistic director Gerry Morita collaborating with an artistic team involving aaron Munson, T. Erin Gruber, Deviani Andrea, eryn tempest, Tia Kushniruk, Nicolás Arnaez, Farhad Khosravi and Daniel Stadnicki.

Tickets for the shows — April 29 and 30 at 8 p.m. — are $25 for the general public and $20 for members, online at milezerodance. com.

On the other side of downtown, I Don't Even Miss You is premiering at Co*lab, 9641 102A Ave. as part of this year's new works festival, RISER, with support from the Common Grounds Art Society.

A non-binary computer programmer finds they're the last one alive on Earth and copes by starting to archive their life, exploring ideas such as gender and relationships in the absence of others' perceptions.

The multidisciplinary production uses original music, movement, video and AI work to tell the story written and performed by Elena Eli Belyea of the award-winning company Tiny Bear Jaws,

which has been racking up rave reviews since 2015.

Along with show times, tickets are a suggested price of $25 with a pay-what-you-can option at tinybearjaws.com.
