Girl, 5, sexually assaulted at area playground

Police are searching for a man after a five-year-old girl was sexually assaulted at a playground in northeast Edmonton.

According to the Edmonton Police Service Child Protection Section, a white man with short blond hair and blue eyes who called himself “Kevin” allegedly grabbed the child, who was playing at the Evansdale School Playground, sexually assaulted her and ran off.

The incident took place sometime between June 14 and 17, police said in a Wednesday news release, and that they received the complaint June 17.

The man was reportedly wearing a brown shirt, jeans and black shoes without socks, and a black watch.

Police are looking to identify the suspect and speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
