BLAKELY, Ann (nee Hermanna Van Den Berg)

November 2, 1946 - January 21, 2024

-

Ann finished the last chapter of her book: January 21, 2024. She was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on November 2, 1946, and came to Canada with her family in the 1950s. She was a proud Canadian.

Ann is survived by her devoted son, Andrew (Kayla), and siblings Wilma, Hein (Pam) and Carol (Richard) as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also fondly remembered by many hundreds of children who learned to love reading books and literature from her years as a librarian with the Edmonton Public School Board.

She was predeceased by her parents George and Cora Van den Berg and an infant daughter Rebecca.

Ann was an adventurous person and once completing school she lived and worked across the country, including Churchill, Manitoba, Williams Lake, BC, and at the Olds Agricultural College. Her community benefited from her volunteer service as she was always involved and always taking a leadership role. She was the President of the Union at the Olds College, on the parents' committee at schools, on the community league, Highlands United Church, and at the Old Folks Home. It is not too much to say that she was always actively engaged. She was a determined person who saw things through to the end. Special thanks to those friends who rallied and supported her, that helped to ease her passing.

Arrangements for a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date; in lieu of flowers, please consider giving a donation to a worthy charity. Cut flowers will wilt before the good that the donation to a community organization will!
